Problem
Telmotor has been operating for over 40 years in the distribution of products for industrial automation and electrical supplies, with 9 different branches and a staff of 320 employees, divided into three large business units – Light Consulting, Industry Automation and Energy Solutions – with a turnover of over 100 million euros.
In 2014, logistics was centralized at the Bergamo distribution center, with the aim of investing in an increasingly capable and performing logistics service, with immediate lead time, in particular reference to the very high-rotation components.
This internal reorganization has unearthed new requirements in customer service management and in the timeliness of order processing. This is why Telmotor turned to Automha.

Solution
The solution designed by Automha, together with the Telmotor logistics team, provides a semi-manually managed storage warehouse organized on three mezzanine floors. The remaining area was left for the development of an automatic system, moved by a stacker crane, also designed and built by Automha. The automatic warehouse makes uses of a difference in height of 5 meters, which brings the height under the beam to 14 meters for the entire length of the deposit and develops in height along 9 storage levels that house up to 2508 pallets. The automatic warehouse is to be used for cable reels different from each other, both voluminous and overstock. Automha’s intuition was to equip the satellites with metal cradles that are ideal for all bearings, greatly facilitating the movement inside the plant and increasing the efficiency of the storage process. The location of the rolls is chosen based on weight / volume considerations.
The warehouse has an entry bay, where weight and shape checks are carried out, and a discharge bay. Then there is a third output bay connected to the cable-cutter machine. In this way, the operator can pick up the required cable length without the need to further move the reel which, after cutting, is returned to the warehouse, while the amount of cable still available is updated with the system. All movements are recorded by Automha’s AWM system, interfaced with the customer management software.
Finally, thanks to the SCADA interface of Automha, the central office has complete visibility of the storage and movements in the warehouse.

The automatic solution conceived by Automha has optimized the warehouse storage spaces and made picking and order fulfillment more efficient. The operators, thanks to the use of the stacker crane with telescopic forks to pick up goods, were exempted from the handling during the picking phases, considerably increasing the safety of the personnel in the warehouse.

The collaboration between Automha and Telmotor has created a virtuous circle of efficiency.
