Shahi Projects: automatic self-supporting warehouse

Sector: Textile

Automatic self-supporting warehouse for textile industry.

Founded in 1974 by Sarla Ahuja, Shahi, located in Shimoga (India), has grown to become India’s largest clothing manufacturer, with 65 factories and 3 production plants in 9 States.

Problem

The high degree of vertical integration in logistics and production activities has made it a flexible company, with a rapid level of adaptation to the market and with a strong orientation towards the client in all its areas of activity. The latter is the real added value of Shahi, which seeks the same commitment of all its collaborators.

And that’s why for the construction of its new warehouse it turned to Automha, which has always pursued the goal of identifying the best investment for its clients, accompanying them at every stage, from the design to the construction and installation of the systems, taking care of every mechanical and electrical detail.

The constant growth of the company has made it necessary to rethink the internal logistics and the spaces used for the storage of swatches, no longer suitable for the volume of orders.

Automha carefully evaluates the most effective solution for its clients’ problems; for Shahi it identified the creation of a new self-supporting warehouse adjacent to the existing structure as the best solution.

The construction of a self-supporting warehouse made it possible to make the most of the available volumes, significantly reducing masonry work.

Solution

The self-supporting warehouse structure has been equipped with an automatic handling system, of which the main elements are two stacker cranes equipped with 2 forks each.
The stacker cranes are suitable for covering warehouse areas with a high number of movements per hour.

The Shahi warehouse has a storage capacity of 15,000 swatches, which have a diameter between 100mm and 450mm, lengths from 1100 to 1900mm and a maximum weight of 60kg each. The warehouse guarantees performances equal to 100 inputs per hour in combination with 100 outputs per hour. The relevant feature of this plant is its “selective” operation: in fact, the pieces are stored one by one on a special basket. The position of the basket is recorded and updated with the use of high-definition cameras.

Advantages

Automha has proved to be a winning partner, given its experience in the textile sector, its professionalism, as well as its shared commitment with Shahi towards the search for low environmental impact solutions.

The combination of vertical racks and 2 stacker cranes was very effective. In fact, this solution makes the most of the height of a warehouse developed mainly vertically.

The new warehouse has created an increase in space performance by solving the problems of storage space and order and shipping times encountered by the client.
